EnCap has been a significant source of capital to the upstream and midstream sectors of the oil and gas industry since 1988. We have successfully managed more than 240 oil and gas companies through multiple hydrocarbon cycles, experiencing exceptional returns and limited losses. The firm has raised 21 institutional funds totaling more than $37 billion and currently manages capital on behalf of more than 350 domestic and international investors including public and private pension funds, insurance companies and university endowments and foundations.

We also continue to identify segments of the energy market that offer the most attractive opportunities, including opportunities created by the created by the global transition to a lower-carbon energy system, including power generation via solar, wind and natural gas opportunities enhanced by the implementation of low-cost, proven battery storage systems.

Expertise, Experience & Continuity
EnCap Investments’ seasoned professionals have extensive experience in the energy arena. EnCap is led by seven principals, the four founding partners and three additional managing partners. The founders have led EnCap since inception and have a professional working relationship that spans more than 35 years, while the three other managing partners have an average of 28 years of industry-related experience, including an average of more than 15 years tenure at EnCap. In addition to the managing partners, the firm has six additional partners with an average of more than 21 years of related oil and gas experience and an additional 20 oil and gas professionals on its investment staff, including six petroleum engineers.
The midstream side of our business is managed by EnCap Flatrock Midstream. The EnCap Flatrock Midstream team is led by the three Flatrock founders — Dennis F. Jaggi, William R. Lemmons, and William D. Waldrip — and three additional managing partners — Gregory C. King, David J. Kurtz and Sam Pitts. The Flatrock founders have worked together for the majority of the past 30 years. With several petroleum engineers on both the upstream and midstream staffs, EnCap has strong technical expertise across the engineering, geological and geophysical aspects of every client’s asset mix.
Our Energy Transition efforts are led by a team of highly qualified executives with a proven track record of value creation in the electric power and alternative energy space and an extensive network of relevant industry contacts. Jim Hughes, Tim Rebhorn, Shawn Cumberland and Kellie Metcalf worked together at Prisma Energy and other firms before joining Encap. The Energy Transition team has more than 110 years of combined experience building successful teams in the power and renewable sectors, including over 80 years of executive level experience in project origination and development, M&A and finance, risk management, power trading and marketing, operations and administration.
